Stop using an empty coffee can to store your brushes. When you drop your paintbrush into the can or cup brush to let it dry, solvent and water seeps down into the brush’s ferrule, rusting the metal, damaging the wood, and breaking down the glue.

You want to be able to identify the right brush easily while working—so it’s ideal to store them tip up—but that’s not how you want them to dry.
